Wine Country has its roots in farming. After all, grapes are just another crop. They sure love the soil in the central coast area. Add water and the balance of sun, cool coastal mornings and hot afternoons are perfect for grapes. Vineyards are just another example of how crops have morphed into the wine industry in California. When I transitioned into painting the wine country as a key element of the American West, I was astounded how many parallels there are with ranching, farming and the values that made the West such a vital part of America in its early Western history. Those values still reside in the wine country areas and you can see them from the crops to the architecture and surrounding culture. What a great place to live! Cheers!
